Ranitidine 150 mg, a medication belonging to the class of histamine-2 (H2) receptor antagonists, is commonly used to reduce stomach acid production and alleviate symptoms of gastroesophageal reflux disease (GERD), ulcers, and heartburn. While it has been widely used for decades and is generally considered safe, recent concerns regarding potential contamination with a carcinogenic substance called N-nitrosodimethylamine (NDMA) have raised questions about its long-term safety.

Due to these concerns, the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) recommended the withdrawal of all ranitidine products from the market in April 2020. This recommendation was based on findings that levels of NDMA in some ranitidine products increased over time and under certain storage conditions, potentially posing a risk to consumers.

As a result, using ranitidine daily or on a long-term basis is not recommended due to the potential risks associated with NDMA contamination. It's important for individuals who have been prescribed ranitidine to consult their healthcare provider for alternative medications or treatment options to manage their gastrointestinal symptoms safely and effectively.
